Liu Xiaofang“I remember” (Recuerdo)

Biografia The photographs by Liu Xiaofang (Datong City, China, 1980) are lyrical compositions with horizons where sky and sea merge, uniting the tradition and contemporaneity of the Asian giant. The figure of a little girl appears again and again in these fantasy settings, as a spectator and as a leading player, contemplative and remote, forming a part of a series of extraordinary events that take place in her presence. Liu’s photographs evoke Chinese traditional painting, especially well known for its misty landscapes. Somewhere between painting and photography, this series conjures up a fairy-tale world in which illusion blends into reality and the vague memories of childhood. Liu Xiaofang was selected in 2010 among the most promising contemporary photographers by the Musée de l’Elysée to take part in the travelling exhibition entitled reGeneration2. Showing her creativity and talent at the 2010 edition of Paris Photo, in a sweet and natural way Xiaofang leads us to nostalgia. One of her circular visions was chosen as the image of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
